While Jeb Bush and self-proclaimed rock and roll haterTed Cruz have already positioned themselves for a 2016 Republican presidential run, the GOPs most well-known candidate and frontrunner, 2012 runner-up Mitt Romney, announced that he wouldnt enter the electoral fray this time around. Romney eschewed his oft-criticized robotic nature with a charismatic appearance Wednesday night on The Tonight Show.
For the former Presidential candidates appearance, Jimmy Fallon resurrected one of his all-time greatest Saturday Night Live-era gags: The man in the mirror routine, which Fallon previously used to imitate Mick Jagger in 2001. With Mitt in the Mirror, Fallon dusts off his stellar Romney impression as the two Mitts engage in a hilarious conversation about why he chose not to run, his upcoming charity boxing match against Evander Holyfield and the Hilary Clinton e-mail scandal.
On the Holyfield fight, Fallons Romney quips, I guess it wont be the first time we lose to a black guy. When the mirror chat shifts to what important issues Romney should bring up while sitting on Fallons couch, the former Massachusetts governorjokes, Weve got turmoil in the Middle East, and an immigration crisis here at home and now Zayn quit One Direction. Thanks, Obama, a nod to the now-popular catchall phrase for when anything goes wrong.
Romney even pokes fun at his own forced laughter throughout the bit. Were not saying this new and enthused Mitt wouldve won the 2012 election, but at least he would have made things more entertaining.
