The first offering from the Stranger Things, Volume 1soundtrack, the pensive Shell Kill You, is now available stream.

Composed by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein of the Austin band Survive, Shell Kill You captures the Netflix hits sci-fi vibe with eerie synth lines that build and strengthen amidst dense industrial percussion.

Stranger Things, Volume 1arrives digitallyAugust 12th via Lakeshore Records, with a CD release planned for September 16th. Volume 2follows digitally August 19th and physically September 23rd.

Dixon and Stein were tapped to compose the score for Stranger Thingsbecause the shows creators, the Duffer Brothers, happened to be fans of Survive. The Duffers even used a song from Survives first album in the concept trailer they pitched to Netflix.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Dixon and Stein discussed the challenge of composing for TV. Wed seen a little bit of the aesthetic they were going for, Stein said. But there werent scripts yet, there were just, like, these vague, kind of character descriptions. And to make scenes based on those ideas, you just had to kind of imagine what that was and feel it out and send it over. And some of those things actually just locked in and like stayed very early on.
