The Simpsons Pay Tribute to Yusuf Islam

From Homerpalooza to Paul McCartneys visit, there have been countless musical moments on The Simpsonsduring its 26 seasons, and on its 550th episode, the long-running animated series paid tribute to Cat Stevens landmark 1970 album Tea for the Tillerman during its episode-opening couch gag. In the minute-long bit, we see idyllic scenes of Springfield modeled after Stevens own album artwork as the singers Tea for the Tillerman soundtracks the action.

In the opening, a three-eyed seagull soars overhead, Mr. Burns dumps toxic waste into a lake, and Bart, Lisa and Ralph Wiggum enjoy a swing set in the tribute, which comes just weeks before Yusuf Islam releases his new albumTell Em Im Gone, the singers first LP since 2009, on October 27th. The couch gag ends with Homer reenacting Tea for the Tillermans iconic album cover, but of course the meal ends with a Doh! If the song sounds familiar, its because Tea for the Tillerman was previously used as the theme to Ricky Gervais Extras. (Surprisingly, The Simpsons didnt also make use of the Tillerman track Sad Lisa.)

Yusuf recently canceled his first New York concert in 35 yearsafter scalpers were seeking extortionate tickets prices. Unfortunately I will not be performing in NYC this time around but I am looking forward to playing for fans in Philadelphia on December 4 and hope to return to NYC at a future date, Yusuf wrote on his official site. I have been a longtime supporter of paperless tickets to my shows worldwide and avoiding scalpers. Unfortunately NY has a state law that requires all tickets sold for shows in NYC to be paper, enabling them to be bought and sold at inflated prices Looks like the Peace Train is going to arrive at New York a little bit later than expected.
